How are classes structured?
Our Latin dance classes are based on a monthly-basis structure. This means that students commit to 4 weeks of taking a class once a week, for an hour. We strongly believe that monthly-basis structured classes allow students, at any level, to better measure their progress, understand how they best learn Latin dance technique and feel more confident in the specific genre being taught.
Our style of salsa that we teach is called "Mambo" or Salsa On2. There are many different styles of salsa, but we focus specifically on Mambo. Many other studios in our city teach Salsa On1 - we want to make sure that you have the opportunity to learn more than one style in Milwaukee. Our instructors & studio owners have been training in Mambo for over 6 years! They continue to train and travel throughout the United States, Canada & Mexico; in order to bring more technique, movement fundamentals, and history to Milwaukee dancers.
This beginner level 1 class is for anyone with very little to no experience. A partner is not required. In this class you will learn not only your basic Salsa steps, but also learn about the different instruments that make up a Salsa band. We will train your ears to be able to hear the heart beat of a Salsa song; the congas (this applies specifically to the style of Salsa that we teach which is Salsa On2 or also known as 'Mambo').
This beginner level 2 class is for anyone that is familiar with Mambo or Salsa On2 that has a decent foundation of their On2 basic. A partner is not required to take this class.
This Salsa intermediate class is for anyone that is familiar with Mambo/Salsa On2 that has a good foundation of their On2 basic, who can dance On2 to medium-paced Salsa songs. You should already be able to dance alone and with a partner the following:
- outside turns
- syncopated steps
- inside turns
- proper connection technique
- hammer locks, combs & checks
- cross body lead
- reverse cross body lead
This BEGINNER BACHATA class is for anyone with very little to no experience. A partner is not required. In this class you will learn how the different rhythms of a bachata song tell you to dance. You will also learn the basic bachata steps, footwork sequences and detailed techniques to feel amazing on the dance floor!
The partner work taught, relates to each specific bachata rhythm: derecho, majao and mambo. By the end of this class you will have the knowledge to be able to recognize all three bachata rhythms while social dancing and have a mini library of bachata moves to pull from!
This BACHATA INTERMEDIATE level class is for anyone that is familiar with basic bachata hip technique, who can dance bachata to medium-paced bachata songs and who is familiar with all three bachata rhythms. You should already be able to dance alone and with a partner the following steps:
- outside turns & inside turns
- syncopated steps
- modified bachata basic steps
Salsa/Bachata Saturday Series
We offer our beginner level Salsa & Bachata classes on Saturdays roughly once a month to provide the opportunity for more people to learn Latin dance outside of our week night schedule. The intention behind these mini weekend intensives is to help people feel more comfortable going out social dancing and to provide a safe environment during the day, on a Saturday, to learn these styles of dance. We understand that during the week night not everyone has the availability to take a class. By popular demand we have opened our Saturday schedules to provide more Salsa & Bachata classes ;)
