Christopher Gilbert

hip-hop & Kids' Hip-hop

Growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Christopher DeAngelo Gilbert was inspired by the work ethic of his mother Shirley Gilbert, the showmanship of Michael Jackson and the timeless talent of James Brown. As he was growing up, art, music and dance were what his life consisted of. At age 8 he began performing with Ton Ko-Thi as a percussionist and danced with the Washington High School dance team: Kinetic Energy. Once he entered high school at Wisconsin Lutheran, he joined the arts department where he landed his first teaching job at Pat Keller's Dance Studio in Wauwatosa. As their 1st Hip Hop instructor ever, he eventually chose to branch out in order to expand his dance vocabulary and grow as an artist! He attended the auditions for So You Think You Can Dance, where he ended up making it to the Las Vegas round as a contestant. Once he departed from the show, he began teaching Ballroom at Fred Astaire in downtown Milwaukee! After his time there, he chose to take his talents to LA where he ended up dancing, acting, and touring with the Nickelodeon show: Yo Gabba Gabba. He later decided to move back to Milwaukee so that he could invest into the community, by choreographing at the theatre academy First Stage and numerous dance studios and schools. Chris is currently a part of a musical collective/band called New Age Narcissism who’s focus is inspiring the youth and promotes individuality. When he is not teaching dance or performing with his band, he does motivational speaking with the mindset to instill belief and positivity into others.
